Embeddings
vectors encode semantic relationships for similarity search
Why learn Embeddings?
Useful for matching meaning beyond exact keywords. Similarity scores are model-dependent and do not establish factual correctness.
Where it came from
Embedding models map inputs such as text to numerical vectors. Similarity between compatible vectors can support retrieval, clustering, and related tasks.
Build your understanding
Work through these exercises in order. Try the task before opening a reference.
- Embed a small set of related and unrelated sentences.
- Inspect vector dimensions and normalization.
- Rank results using an appropriate similarity measure.
- Evaluate retrieval with labeled relevant documents.
- Rebuild or version an index when changing embedding models.
